Professor Geraint Johnes appointed new Director of the Work Foundation

Lancaster University has announced that Geraint Johnes, Professor of Economics at Lancaster University Management School, will be the new Director of The Work Foundation.

The Work Foundation, which is part of Lancaster University, is one of the leading independent, international authorities on work and its future.

Professor Johnes said: “I am delighted to be taking on the role of Director at The Work Foundation at a time of profound economic and labour market change. We will use our position, as a leading independent authority on work and its future, to ensure that we can advise on how best to respond to challenges that arise as the economy recovers. In particular, we shall develop further our focus on innovation and productivity, urban labour markets, the employability of young people, and wellbeing at work.”

Geraint is currently Dean of Graduate Studies in Lancaster University and has previously held senior leadership roles within both the Department of Economics and Lancaster University Management School. His research interests are in labour markets, especially spatially disaggregated analysis and in the economics of education. He will continue to be an active member of the Department of Economics at LUMS.

Professor Geraint Johnes has previously worked at Dartmouth College, the Welsh Office, Lehigh University, the Australian National University, the University of Wales (Cardiff), and as a consultant for numerous organisations including the World Bank, OECD and the British Council.
